I feel immensely happy that as the President of Police Families Welfare Society, I got the opportunity to be associated with the welfare activities of Delhi Police, the largest metropolitan police force of the world. Given the ardous and exacting nature of duties of Delhi police, we are concerned with sustained focus on welfare of our police personnel and their families. Police Families Welfare Society ( PFWS ) is engaged in various welfare activities and is constantly working towards providing skills and empowerment to the family members of our police personnel. Our 10 Welfare Centres have evolved as focal points of various activities and are hubs of social and cultural activities round the year. Production of various items like readymade garments, candles, condiments, pickles, etc of good quality prepared by members of families are sold at reasonable prices and are made readily available at stalls within and outside police premises. It is a matter of great satisfaction that our products are in great demand and we achieved record sales this year.
This year the society launched two Prashiksha- Skill Development Centres under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana at Model town and Narela Welfare Centres. Training is being imparted in Assistant Beauty Therapist and Self Employed Tailor Course. These courses have resulted in the enhancement of skills and confidence of the successful candidates thereby helping them to become self reliant. For the benefit of wards of police personnel many new initiatives have been undertaken in 2018. Coaching of meritorious wards for UPSC exams has been organized at concessional rates in collaboration with a reputed coaching institute. Similarly, a number of wards are being imparted professional training in the field of Hospitality by ITDC under its ‘Hunar Se Rozgar Scheme’.
In 2017, PFWS started its most ambitious project under the banner of ‘Mission Olympics’ with an aim to promote talent and empower them in six sporting disciplines. Due to consistent hard work and sincere efforts of our players, coaches, mentors and all stakeholders, our wards have started achieving commendable results at the national and international levels.
The society regularly organizes summer camps, counseling, yoga camps, health check up camps, counseling and other stress busting programmes for the overall wellbeing of the families. Festivals, National and International Days were celebrated at all the welfare centres with great vigour and enthusiasm. As a part of the Central Government’s, Swachata Hi Sewa, celebrations, initiatives have been taken to provide a clean and healthy working and residing environment. As a part of our Green Initiative, a pilot project’ WOW-Wealth Out of Waste’ was also launched at Police Colony, Malviya Nagar, in collaboration with ESREE Foundation. This project has done a wonderful job in raising awareness on environmental friendly methods of waste disposal and their team is taking great efforts and helping the residents in segregation, recycling of household waste in a manner that protects and restores the environment and ensures the cleanliness and hygiene of the colony.
I wish to congratulate my entire team for putting their best efforts in making all the programmes and initiatives a great success. I am grateful to all those who come forward and volunteer with their selfless services at all our centres regularly.
It is rightly said, “Together we can move mountains”…I am confident that together, we shall be able to achieve many new milestones.
