The Police Families Welfare Society, that was formed in the year 1972, has being doing exemplary work for the welfare and betterment of the Delhi Police families for nearly five decades now and I feel extremely honoured to be its President and take that legacy forward. The welfare society, more commonly known by its acronym PFWS, is a non-profit organization working under the aegis of the welfare unit of Delhi Police with the prime objective of uplifting and impacting the families of our police personnel who work tirelessly to protect and safeguard the national capital of our country. Given the arduous and exacting nature of their duties, the responsibility of the wellbeing of Delhi Police families falls on PFWS which regularly organizes various activities for them in the areas of employment generation, vocational training, intellectual enhancement, financial literacy, health and fitness, cultural cohesiveness, career counselling, women empowerment and self-defense, among others. Besides this vast ambit of social work, the society also strives to provide a viable platform to the wards of our police personnel, giving them immense opportunities to shine and showcase their innate talent in various fields including sports through its “Mission Olympics” programme.
Currently, PFWS runs ten welfare centres that are located at Malviya Nagar, Vikaspuri, New Police Lines, Pitampura, Shalimar Bagh, Model Town, Dwarka, Ahata Kidara, Narela and Jyoti Nagar. But because the strength of the Delhi Police force is more than 80,000 and growing, we intend to expand and open more welfare centres in the future so that many more from within the fraternity can benefit from the good work that is being done by PFWS. Under the leadership of its President and dedicated Core Committee members, senior functionaries and Team Leaders, the society strives hard to draw up a yearlong calendar of activities that greatly enhance the lives of our police families and provide skill development in order to make them more “Atmanirbhar.” Today, the society produces several products like garments, woolens, candles, soaps, jute bags, masks, purses, pickles and condiments of excellent quality that are made by the dexterous hands of our police families and sold at extremely reasonable prices at our two “Swayam” stores located at Baba Kharak Singh Marg and New PHQ building which are a symbol of our self-reliance and growing footprint. This year, PFWS also got the FSSAI license for its edible items which will definitely increase the sale and reach of our products and take them far and wide.
In 2022, the Police Families Welfare Society will be completing 50 glorious years since its inception and I would like to thank all the past presidents for their invaluable contribution in nurturing the society and bringing it to where it is today – an organization that is strong, vibrant and much admired. It will be my sincere endeavor to not only keep this banner flying high, but to also take PFWS to even greater heights.
